Somalia: Puntland parliament passes new law allowing multi parties



The parliament of the semiautonomous region of Puntland has passed new law allowing the region to have multi parties, officials said on Monday.

The parliament has been debating the new constitution for five days and eventually agreed unanimously to pass the new constitution

The parliament of Puntland has recently disagreed to pass the new law after the legislators from Sool and Sanaag regions rejected an article in the constitution.

Puntland parliament comprises 66 members and elects the president but parliamentarians said the new law will allow the people of Puntland regions in north eastern Somalia to elect the president.

Politicians from Puntland started new campaign of forming new parties which will take part the next election of Puntland.
