Somali Army colonel says government needs tanks.

Recently The United States has sent a shipment of weapons and ammunition to the government of Somalia, according to a U.S. official in The Obama administration has decided to bolster efforts to support Somalia's embattled government by providing money for weapons and helping the military in neighboring Djibouti train Somali forces.

A Somali army who refused to be called his last name Mohamed said "if The goal Of the USA government and the international community is to stem and defeat the Islamic insurgent who are advancing in the area near the presidential place or villa Somalia, then the Somali government armored Vehicles specially few soviet made T55 and 67 Tanks to defend themselves and defeat the Islamist.

The Ethiopian Operations in Somali in 2006 have affirmed T55 Tanks ´s worth." "Without tanks, you can´t defeat this kind of enemy."

Colonel Mohamed emphasized the tank´s important role in a complicated fight, pointing to its decades-old lethality, ability to adapt to open terrain and urban settings, the survivability factor for crews, and the fact that you only need 5 tanks only at this point."

Colonel Mohamed concluded that urban operations are nothing new for the government forces, and that tanks are major part of their ability to be successful in places like Mogadishu. Tanks led the way during the initial Ethiopian Invasion and have been prominent weapons in nearly every major operation as well as important in the day-to-day mission." The effort to help Government forces should be included tanks to bolster their defense. If the U.S. sends small arms and ammunition alone without providing government forces with heavy weapons such us Tanks to defend themselves from Militants, then, the assistance will have little impact.
