Somali Minister of Information, Farhan Ali Mohammed has announced his cabinet's readiness to place curfews throughout the war-torn Horn of Africa country.
The Somali government decided to announce the state of emergency in the country after a cabinet meeting on Saturday, which declared Somalia as being "in danger" of a humanitarian crisis.
Somali information minister has asked international bodies including the Organization of Islamic Conference, the United Nations, the African Union and the Arab League to send military assistance to the country in an attempt to shore up the government in Mogadishu, Press TV correspondent reports.
The country's plea for international support comes amid news from government sources about dozens of people being killed and scores more injured in the aftermath of a new wave of clashes between government forces and armed rebels.
Farhan Ali Mohammed went on to appeal to the Islamic countries around the Persian Gulf for swift assistant aimed at halting the ongoing bloodshed in the country.
Somalia has been branded as a 'lawless state' grappling with civil strife and foreign interventions for decades.
The country has been divided between opposition groups vying for the control of the country.
