Somali crisis needs political solution

Opinion & Editorial

The globe, under the auspices of AU, should identify moderate elements within Al Shabaab, and bring them on a round table with the TFG.

After peace is restored in Somalia, the religious fanatics within Al Shabaab will find it hard to recruit the many unemployed youths who have joined the militia group — I believe they have done so out of frustration and not religious conviction.

Before a long term conclusive political solution is in place, the AU can increase its forces in Somalia but only to a manageable levels that will contain the insecurity.

Tackling a political problem using the military will only throw the entire continent and the world into chaos.
