After Nokia’s launch of mobile Ramadan 2010 specific applications, Yahoo Maktoob announced today launching a new Ramadan website, the micro site includes three main sections “spiritualities”, “ramadan and People” and “entertainment.” The Muslims month of Ramadan is expected to start this week.
The new site will introduce a number of features including downloads for Ramadan-specifc screen sever and wallpapers, ramadan news feed via the web and desktop gadgets and a new Ramadan contest and a TV guide. Also Yahoo’s recently announced Video On Demand Channel (VOD) will be available for users to use for free on the TV guide. Yahoo said on a press release that VOD has Ramadan “related” videos and shows.
Ramadan site also includes a section to the Quran with full interpretation, where users can mark when the stopped so they can sign-in next tome to continue where they stopped. The Quran sections also comes with “tajweed” which helps people read Quran viruses according the Islam’s rules of reading the Quran.
The site also has something for women and family with content such as health and beauty, fatwa related to women issues and cooking tips.
Yahoo Maktoob is also offering free SMS services that allows users to send free SMS messages to congratulate their family and friends on Ramadan and Eid.
Ahmed Nassef VP and Managing Director of Yahoo Middle East said that the Ramdan website is part of Yahoo’s effort to be at the center of people’s online lives.
