Somalia: Opposition leader meets government minister

Sheik Abdurahman Mohamud Farah known as Janaqow, the minister for justice of the Somali government has met in Khartoum with Sheik Hassan Dahir Aways the leader of the Asmara based wing of the Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia. Sources said on Thursday.

Sheik Aways recently left from Asmara to Sudan to meet with Somali government officials in Sudan.

Sudan announced that it would mediate between the Somali government and the Islamist rebels.

If Sheik Aways accepts to reconcile with the government led by Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed, it will consolidate the reconciliation efforts by the government.

It is not exactly known what Sheik Abdirahman and Sheik Aways discussed in their meeting.

Sheik Hassan Mahdi a close ally of Sheik Aways denied that Sheik Aways went to Sudan for mediation but he said that the Sudanese government invited him and accepted the invitation.

Some reports also indicate that Sheik Hassan Dahir Aways will come back to Mogadishu.
