Somalia: Two suspected killers captured

The spokesman of the Somali police Colonel Abdulahi Hassan Barise said Thursday the police of the Somali government has captured two suspected killers who are suspected to be the attackers of a Somali lawmaker Amir Ahmed Shaketi.

The lawmaker was seriously injured on Thursday by three unknown gunmen armed with pistols and they escaped with a car that was waiting for them.

“The police have captured two suspected men and they are under investigation and after we have ended the investigation we will give full details,” said Colonel Barise.

Separately, the speaker of the Somali parliament Sheik Adan Mohamed Nor said on Thursday that legislators will not be intimidated by the targeted attacks against them.

“We see that violence-mongers are committed to attacking and killing the Somali legislators to frighten them to quit from job, but we are telling those with a loud voice that the cowardly attacks will not deter MPs from accomplishing their duties,” said the speaker of the parliament Sheik Adan Mohamed Nor.

He called on the government to draw new security plans for protecting targeted government officials, educated people and civil society groups.
