Renewed Fighting Erupts in Mogadishu

Heavy fighting has erupted again in Mogadishu between forces loyal to Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and Islamic insurgents opposed to it.

The fighting in which the two sides are using heavy weapons is mainly concentrated in the districts of Wardhiigley and Boondheere, particularly in the intersections of Florenza and Afarta Darjiino.

Due to earlier fighting in the areas, a lot of the civilian populations have left the areas where the fighting is taking place although some people still remain in those areas to guard their properties. It is not known yet the damage the fighting has caused to properties or the human casualty.

Earlier fighting between the two sides in these areas deadlocked and did not result in clear winner although civilian residents had to flee their homes lest they are caught in the crossfire.
