Somalia’s government soldiers have retaken late on Wednesday Yaqshid district police station in north Mogadishu after they launched a heavy counter attack on Hizbul Islam rebels who captured the station early on Wednesday.
Hizbul Islam led by Sheik Hassan Dahir Aweys, who are fighting against the fragile government, seized briefly the police station on Wednesday morning.
Muhiddin Hassan Juris, Yaqshid district commissioner told Shabelle that the government soldiers managed to retake large areas from Hisbul Islam including the contested police station.
Fighting between government soldiers and Hizbul Islam forces has been continuing in Yaqshid district for the last four days.
On the other hand, al- Shabaab claimed victory over the fighting in the capital. Sheik Ali Mohamed Hussein Al-Shabab,s governor of Bandir region said they gained victory over the fighting.
He said that they have killed 10 government soldiers in Dharkeynley district in Mogadishu and captured 6 others.
He also said that they have destroyed AMISOM vehicle and killed the soldiers on board, but there is no independent sources confirming on this.
