Somali Prime minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke held a press conference in Mogadishu, on Sunday.
Prime minister Sharmarke told the media that his government welcomes the African Union decision to support Somalia, during the AU summit in Sirte, Libiya.
He said the federal Somali government needed the politically and logistically support.
When asked if his government is calling for the African Union peacekeepers to take part of the fighting in Mogadishu, he said
“….Yes, we are now discussing how to change the mandate of the African Union peacekeepers (AMISOM), in order to help the government militarily rather than sit in their positions….” Said the Prime minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke who says that they are fighting for the Statehood of Somalia.
“….these groups (insurgents) just don’t want chaos, but they want to change the whole Somali society by destroying everything that is Somali….” Said Mr.Sharmarke who accused the islamist groups of inviting foreign fighters into the country.
Sharmarke said that any one who supports the insurgent groups will be prohibited by the African Union and international community to travel to abroad, adding that there will be a blockade on the use of all sea and airports controlled by the islamist groups.
The government in Mogadishu is still struggling to defeat the insurgent groups in Southern Somalia who are taking over more positions in the capital and surrounding villages.
