Somalia: Ahlu Sunna condemns grave desecration in southern town

Officials from Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a have denounced desecration of graves by al-Shabaab that has been continuing in Bardhere district in Gedo region, officials said on Sunday.

Al-Shabaab administrators in Bardhere have started destruction of graves in Bardhere town and destroyed three graves which famous religious clerics were buried.

Sheik Ismail Adan Kofi, a spokesman for Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a in Dolow town described the destruction of graves as one with special objectives.

Sheik Abdulqadir Yusuf Qalbi, one of al-shabaab administrators in Bardhere argued that the destruction of graves was a religious one.

The administration of Bardhere said they were determined to destroy all the graves in Mosques and others in the town.

Ahlu Sunna Waljam’a adherents angered by the desecration of al-Shabaab took up arms to fight against al-shabaab in south and central Somalia.
