Somalia: Calm returns to fighting areas in Mogadishu

Calm has returned to the areas of fighting in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Saturday after heavy fighting between government soldiers and Islamist rebels that killed more than 40 people in the capital.

Sporadic fighting can be still heard in some parts of the capital and the rival forces are still in their positions.

The government has vowed to continue the fighting while the opposition groups have also vowed to fight on.

Many remaining residents in the capital started to flee from Mogadishu and join the displaced people live between Mogadishu and Afgoye.

The movement of the traffic and people restarted again in Mogadishu and people reopened their businesses.

Friday’s fighting has killed about more than 40 people and 200 in Mogadishu.
