Somalia: Al-shabab arrests three journalists

Three radio journalists have been arrested and a radio station has been silenced by al-Shabab administrators in Baidoa, officials said on Monday.

Abdikayr, the deputy director of Radio Jubba in Baidoa told reporters that three journalists including the director Mukhtar Mohamed Atosh were arrested by al-Shabab.

It is not known why they have been arrested and there is no word from al-Shabab.

Al-Shabab arrested recently Muhidin Hassan Mohamed Shabelle reporter from Biadoa after they accused him of false reports that he reported from the town but he was released after two days of detention.

al-Shabab also closed down an independent radio station in Bald Hawo town near the border between Kenya and Somalia recently and later allowed it to operate.

Somali is one of the most dangerous places in the world for journalists to work.
