Somalia: Premier condemns attacks on civilians

Somali Premier Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmake has condemned attacks on civilians on Sunday.

Islamist rebels fired mortars to the centre of the Somali parliament on Saturday and they have also attacked two bases of Burundian troops from the African Union troops in the capital Mogadishu.

At least 12 civilians were killed and more than 15 others were wounded in Saturday’s attacks.

The premier held a press conference in the presidential palace and said the fighting and the mortar attacks killed innocent civilians.

He called for the people in Mogadishu to support the peace efforts and his government and he also called for the insurgents to stop the fighting.

The prime minister also said that the parliament endorsed the Islamic Sharia and that the government also approved.
