Somalia: Mortars fired to police academy

Mortar shells have been fired to a police academy where Somalia’s president Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed have been attending to a ceremony, witnesses said on Sunday.

At least one civilian has been killed and 15 others have been injured near the police academy after mortar shells have fallen to the area.

Police officials were also in the academy when the mortars have fallen to the ground of the Police Academy.

Reports said several mortar shells landed in the academy. It is the second time that such mortars have been targeted to the police academy.

No group has claimed the responsibility of the attack yet, but such mortar attacks are the work of the Islamist rebels who are fighting against the government.

Residents said the victims were all civilians who were killed and injured in the mortar attacks.
