somalia:US based media group CPJ stand up for Somali journalists

Media officials is praising Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) on
Thursday for its leading role of defending the journalists and their
journalistic tasks in the troubled country of Somalia.

Some of the directors of the media outlets in Somalia strongly supported
the activities by CPJ officials thanking particularly Mohemed Keita and
Tom Rhodes who are among the senior officers in the organization’s Africa
and Middle East departments.

"I would express my deep admiration to all CPJ operatives for their
efforts towards defending the journalists' rights in the world and
protesting of the violations against the journalists. Specially I would
give my thanks to Mohamed Keita and Tom Rhodes whose doings will not be
forgotten by the Somali journalists and history will mention them," said
Dahir Abdulle Alasow, the chairman of Associated Somali Journalists
(ASOJ).

Alasow said CPJ moved towards wider progress which gave encourage to world
journalists and he particularly sent his greeting to the chairman of CPJ
Paul E.Steiger.

he said it is unfortunate that International Federation Journalists (IFJ)
officials made disgrace to the Somali journalists instead of helping them.
"I would call for IFJ and other media groups to take the same path of CPJ
in terms of assisting media people in the war-wrecked countries like
Somalia but they should not be selfish and use the aid fund for thier
interests," he added.

Director of Voice of Peace Radio in Mogadishu Abdiaziz Mohamud Guled known
as (Afrika) pointed out that Somalia journalists continue efforts to fight
against the exploitations by the individuals through none existing
organization.

"We see CPJ as the unique organization that often makes contact to the
Somali journalists to keep abreast their conditions. Why it is lacked such
organisation that aware of us? We are warning against those think that
Somali journalists have no government which can take them into accountable
and deal with how you want," said Guled.

Manager of Radio Danan based in Mogadishu Mohamed Hajji Barre known as
(Fiyore) asked CPJ to intervene the acts of conning the aid money intended
for the journalists operating in Mogadishu as the latest fraud of the fund
donated by Doha Media Center for six journalists for their safety through
NUSOJ secretary general Omar Faruk.

But the group claimed that the money goes to the right place and given the
six specified journalists.

Director of SBC Radio and TV based in Bosaso, Mowlid Hajji Abdi commended
CPJ for its continual protection and defending the Somali journalists.
He said the journalists know who assisted them and who uses their name for
his private interests.
