Tensions in central Somalia

Reports from central Somalia say there is fear about fresh fighting in parts of central Somalia, particularly in the areas that al-Shabab and Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a fought in recently, sources said on Saturday.

Reports say Allied Al-shabab and Hizbul Islam groups are amassing militias in Eelbur, the last stronghold town of al-Shabab in central Somalia and battle wagons reached in the area

More than fifteen people were killed and thirty others were injured in fighting between al-Shabab and Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a in Wabho and Dac towns of Eelbur District in central Somalia last month.

If the clan chiefs do not succeed to mediate between the two groups it is feared that a lot of people will die in the fighting again.

Meanwhile, reports from central Somalia also indicate that Ahlu Sunna Waljma’a is amassing militias in parts of central Somalia to confront a possible attack from al-Shabab and it is allies.

The move comes as sever drought and water shortage hit in central Somalia and affected badly the people in the region.
