Somalia: Pirates say they want to help release a cargo ship

Sugule Ali, one of the pirate leaders based in the coastal town of Harardhere in Mudug region in central Somalia said Sunday they would help release a cargo with Somali businessmen if the ship arrives areas under their control.

Somali pirates hijacked on Saturday a cargo ship hired for Somali businessmen near Mogadishu port.

Sea gangs armed with rocket launchers and sophisticated navigation equipment have captured a string of vessels off the Horn of Africa.

Somali businessmen have also called for the pirates to release the ship they hijacked immediately.

Naval ships from the European Union, NATO and other US-led coalitions have thwarted several attacks in recent days, either preventing hijackings or capturing suspected pirates
